loving {outdoor mirrors}

/ Thursday, March 29, 2012 /
With the weather continuing to heat up I have been thinking quite a bit about outdoor decor (more posts on that soon!) but it wasn't until I saw these images I had really given much thought to outdoor mirrors. They add a layer of sophistication to any outdoor space...

DIY {metallic graphic pots}

/ Tuesday, March 27, 2012 /
 For those of you who guessed that my DIY coasters were terra cotta pot saucers -- you were right! They were part of this larger project to glam up simple terra cotta pots with metallic touches and graphic patterns. The step-by-step instructions for recreating this look can be found in my guest post on Chicago Home + Garden's blog, Design Dose.

loving {woven brights}

What a lovely outcome results from mixing bold color with a natural weave..

DIY {gilt graphic coaster}

/ Sunday, March 25, 2012 /
I was working on a little DIY today and realized that there was another use for part of the end product (which it under wraps for now). It turned out that an element of the project was the perfect size for a coaster. I hope to share the whole DIY with you soon but I am curious if you can guess what these coasters originally were?

happy {mod} weekend

/ Friday, March 23, 2012 /
Ever since the last episode of Mad Men aired 17 months ago I have been going through withdrawal, which will thankfully end this weekend with the return of the series! Until I see Jon Hamm on screen again I am happily finding my mod fix with Emerson Fry's (previously Emerson Made) new spring collection full of mod yet modern and understand sexy ensembles. And for an added bonus the "look book" embraces the Mad Men penchant for copious cocktails. Cheers!

craving {not your classic kelly}

/ Wednesday, March 21, 2012 /
Yes, I know that St. Patricks day had come and gone but no matter the day I will always adore shamrock (well, kelly) green. Can you think of a color that exudes the freshness of springmore? I am always looking for a way to update this classic hue and love the crisp look of it against black or in graphic patterns.

the new {washed out} nautical

/ Monday, March 19, 2012 /
 I briefly lived in Boston and distinctly remember, prior to the move, being excited to use the very classic coastal color story of reds and blue. I embraced those colors for an entire year but now my dream seaside dwelling would be washed in white with fresh pops of sea glass inspired colors. I love the classic look of this home with its little hints of glamour, lovely lighting and occasional modern furnishings.

ladies luncheon {plum perfect}

/ Sunday, March 18, 2012 /
As much as I love hosting dinner parties, there is something very special about a lunchtime affair. How lovely does it sound to sit al fresco sipping champagne out of miniature bottles with colorful straws, sporting a fresh floral dress, enjoying a fresh beet salad and the scent of casually arranged colorful flowers? And how about a lovely watercolor invitation to invite all your friends to such a fun and fresh fete...pretty fabulous, no?

symmetry + mirrors

/ Friday, March 16, 2012 /
I just love both of these rooms for the symmetry and beautiful built in mirrors. A very magical look!

current cravings {spring fresh}

Just a few pieces that I am currently craving -- all of which will bring a breath of fresh spring air to your home and wardrobe....

trending {electric contrast}

/ Monday, March 12, 2012 /
I love the current trend of neutrals paired with bold electric colors, especially when those neutrals are paired with beautifully bold hermes orange...

eye candy {elegant nook}

/ Sunday, March 11, 2012 /
I have what I would call a "mobile office" -- I am constantly lugging around my computer, post its, pens, iPhone, notebook and inspiration files from place to place. It is not that I don't have a desk I just can't stand to sit in the same spot for too long -- today alone I set up my "office" on the terrace, kitchen counter and the dining room table. I am pretty sure though that if i had this beyond gorgeous nook as an office that  I couldn't be pried away.

happy {party planning} weekend!

/ Friday, March 9, 2012 /
It is gorgeous out today and I can only hope that this lasts through the weekend! The weather (and these images) has my mind reeling with ideas for fabulous spring fetes...

Have a lovely weekend!

showing a little {snake} skin

/ Thursday, March 8, 2012 /
Almost time to trade in the little black dress for a little white one! This Paul & Joe dress is a stunning choice for spring and the perfect blank palette to showcase spring fashion trends. I love the way that snakeskin pops against white, especially when tinged with bold colors (acid green. magenta and azure blue!)

bathed in a {golden} glow

/ Tuesday, March 6, 2012 /
Last week I was in Ann Sacks and absolutely fell head over heels in love with Michael Smith's gilt tile. I eagerly asked the cost of this magical tile and of course it was not (and probably will never be) in my price range. Ok, maybe a bathroom covered floor to ceiling in gold would be just slightly over the top but still who wouldn't want to unwind at the end of a long day submerged in a bathtub with a golden glow being cast being over you?!
...one day perhaps! However, until then I would be elated to just have a little hint of gold in my bathroom in the form of a lovely mirror...

trip to etsy {still loving chevron}

/ Monday, March 5, 2012 /
I just took a long overdue trip to Etsy and was delightfully reminded of my love for chevron. This cheerful pattern will always be a favorite of mine. Just a couple chevron finds I ogled as I went down the Etsy rabbit hole...

Supper Sunday: Homemade Ravioli

/ Sunday, March 4, 2012 /
When it comes to my passions, interior design tops the list (hence this blog!) but cooking is a close second. In my mind, there is nothing more therapeutic than spending a Sunday afternoon flitting around the kitchen trying out new recipes. Tonight I made one of my absolute favorite dishes -- homemade butternut squash ravioli with a sage, walnut and cranberry brown butter sauce! It is a Giada recipe (although she uses wonton wrappers and not fresh pasta) and the perfect balance of sweet and savory.

 The raviolis ready to hit the pot of well salted and rapidly boiling water...
And the cooking experience would not be complete without a sous chef -- and Tally, one of my dogs, was a wonderful one and was covered in as much flour as I was. I obviously make a mess in the kitchen -- all part of the fun!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend!

it is almost here!

/ Thursday, March 1, 2012 /

 I cannot believe that it is March already....which means it is almost spring and almost time to enjoy outdoor spaces. Now is only I could construct and decorate a porch like this one before the spring---just a little wishful thinking while I enjoy my morning coffee.
