{push} pinning it

/ Monday, April 30, 2012 /
 I typically start my day with a cup of coffee + pinterest, I am a self proclaimed pinning addict. However, I do have to say that there is something about a  physical pinboard that can never truly be replicated. Long before I started blogging I would tear pages out of fashion and shelter magazines and make collages of color palettes and looks that I loved. Today I was determined to get away from the computer for a bit and create this new pinboard (with some scrap Celerie Kemble for Schumacher fabric) for my home office. And what I pinned...

Do you still keep a real pinboard or has pinterest completely replaced it?

Balancing Act {Fresh Rustic Modern}

/ Sunday, April 29, 2012 /
Balance, it is that magical moment when juxtaposing styles, mix of materials and design concepts converge to create a lovely and livable space. It is very hard to achieve an every person has there own notion of how a balanced room looks and feels. I saw this home earlier today and unlike so many rooms I am inspired by I can usually find one element that I would remove or one I would add. Am I the only one that does that red marker test? Anyways, I am getting off track. This home is one where I would not change one single thing--from the styling, impeccable scale to the fresh and unpretentious way that designer, Allison Bloom, mixed rustic style with modern lines and contemporary furnishings.

What are your thoughts on balance? Tips to achieve them?

weekend home {refined in rattan}

/ /
This has been a very busy, yet fun, week with not only with work but many social functions, including attending the book launch of the new (and amazing) House Beautiful Kitchens book. It leaves me longing for a weekend retreat with a neutral palette and punctuated with natural rattan pieces...
The newest issue of Chicago Home + Garden is also full of lovely weekend retreats! There was one in particular that I loved, it blended industrial pieces with farmhouse charm, you can see my guest blog post on how to recreate thelook here.

texture treatment

 Looking for a way to add depth and interest to a wall without committing to textured wallpaper? Try floor to ceiling artwork or mirrors...

shimmer in schumacher

/ /
I was instantly drawn to the Byzantium collection when a sneak peek debuted in Schumacher ads. I loved the cool blue colors and Moroccan flair of the featured wall covering. When I received an email yesterday announcing the launch of the entire collection I instantly clicked over and ogled each pattern and color palette. I was especially pleased to see these (just a small sample) new metallic offerings in the collection...
What do you think of this new collection? Does it hit it out of the part like the Lulu DK Child collection?

a {detail} orientation

/ Tuesday, April 24, 2012 /
You often hear designers say that "it is all in the details" when creating an  aesthetically pleasing space. It is so much more than the color palette or fabric selections. It is the little thoughtful elements that make a lovely space complete and transform good to great, such as an oversize light fixture...
Fretwork detail on a floor to ceiling window...

A modern faucet and mirror back splash in a traditional kitchen...

A geometric etagere as lovely towel storage...
Investing in an antique floor length gilt mirror in a dressing room ...

the materials {pattern play}

 Nothing like a punch of pattern to freshen up a space. Add any one of these pieces or materials and the impact will be instant!

beautiful distraction {stylish space saver}

/ Friday, April 20, 2012 /
Just as I sat down to finish a post I saw that the new issue of TRADHome went live. So of course I couldn't help but get distracted (typical) and get sucked in by the lovely interiors. The second annual issue of this collaboration between Traditional Home and Lonny is nothing short of incredible. I was especially inspired by this wonderfully chic space saving bar. I love the mirrored details Christina Murphy added to the doors and the graphic pattern peaking through from the bar backsplash. I am not sure I could decide whether to keep the doors open or closed -- it would look beautiful either way.
If you are curious what other images in the issue inspired me you can see them over here on my pinterest page!

garden variety inspiration

/ Wednesday, April 18, 2012 /
 I spent most of my day at the Chicago Botanic Garden setting up an Antiques and Garden Fair booth for Michael Del Piero (who also has a Tastemaker Tag Sale on One Kings Lane going live at 10 A.M. CST tomorrow.) I forgot how inspiring gardens can be. I was in awe of the colors, the patterns and most of all this beautiful brick wall of espalier crabapple trees...
I will be back tomorrow sharing my favorite trellis inspired textiles and shots from the fair!

working it {office essentials}

/ Tuesday, April 17, 2012 /
I just finished devouring Domino: Quick Fixes and there is a piece (with impeccable styling, of course) on dressing up your desk. It got me thinking about my own home office. I honestly spend more time in here than I would like to admit yet it is the last room I think of sprucing up! However, I do have a fun over the desk inspiration board planned. If I could start my office from scratch these pieces would absolutely be the bones...

heating up + cooling down

/ Monday, April 16, 2012 /
If you are ever going to embrace bold and bright colors, the spring and summer months are the time to do it. Inspired by my favorite new fabrics, these are the two color combinations I look forward to using this season--one for cooling off and the other for when I want to heat it up!

sunday style {effortlessly chic}

The highest state of chic is always the kind that comes naturally...
